Central Park is a vast oasis located in the heart of Manhattan, New York City. It covers 843 acres, and is one of the most visited urban parks in the world. In the early 19th century, New York City was rapidly growing and becoming more densely populated. The city’s leaders recognized the need for a large public park to provide a much-needed respite from the urban environment. In 1853, the New York State Legislature authorized the creation of a park in the center of Manhattan. Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, two young landscape architects, won a design competition for the park in 1858. They envisioned a park that would offer a diverse array of recreational opportunities, including walking paths, lakes, open meadows, and wooded areas. Some tours may focus on the park’s architecture, while others may highlight the park’s natural landscapes and wildlife. Regardless of the tour you choose, a Central Park walking tour is an excellent way to explore one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks and gain a deeper appreciation for its history and beauty. Sites and Landmarks associated with this tour will include: Bethesda Fountain, Seneca Village, Strawberry Fields, The Great Lawn, The Conservatory Garden and MUCH more.
