As a native New Yorker with Caribbean roots (Panama and Jamaica) I’ve often wondered about the decisions my descendants made to venture to New York City. For most Caribbeans, (including my ancestors), they were driven by a desire for greater opportunities and a better life for themselves and their families. The Caribbean community in NYC has had a significant impact on the city’s cultural landscape, and neighborhoods like Inwood, Crown Heights, Williamsbridge, and Spanish Harlem serve as testament to this impact. The themed tour will offer a unique and meaningful way to explore and celebrate the contributions of Caribbean immigrants to the city. Whether through food, music, art, or history, this experience provides a window into the vibrant and thriving Caribbean community in NYC.
