Cowboy

The exhibition “Cowboy,” organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Denver, reexamines the popular mythologies surrounding the image and concept of the cowboy. Featuring the work of more than 25 artists from Asian American, Latino, Indigenous, and African American backgrounds, the exhibition delves into a wide range of themes. It explores the cowboy’s role in shaping perceptions of masculinity and gender, and challenges long-held assumptions about cowboys’ relationship to the land. These assumptions are juxtaposed with the lived experiences of contemporary cowboys. The exhibition includes approximately 70 cutting-edge contemporary artworks, including new commissions, offering a fresh perspective on the iconic figure of the cowboy.
