Hammonds House Museum
For art lovers, the Hammonds House Museum is a must-visit. The museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of art by people of the African Diaspora. Herndon Home Museum
The Herndon Home Museum was once the residence of Alonzo Herndon, a self-made millionaire and founder of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. Herndon was a prominent figure in the African-American community in Atlanta, and his home now serves as a museum that showcases his life and legacy.
The Apex Museum
This small museum in the Sweet Auburn district showcases the history of African-Americans in Atlanta and beyond, with exhibits on everything from the Underground Railroad to hip-hop.
The Center for Civil and Human Rights
This museum highlights the history of the civil rights movement in the United States, as well as the struggle for human rights around the world. The interactive exhibits make for an engaging and educational experience.
The Trap Museum
Created by Atlanta native T.I., the museum showcases the history and impact of trap music, which originated in Atlanta in the 1990s. T.I. and his team have created an immersive experience that includes exhibits on the culture, fashion, and language of trap music.
The museum features exhibits on T.I. himself, as well as Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, and Future. One of the highlights of the museum is a replica of T.I.’s childhood home, which was located in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhood.
Other exhibits in the museum include a tribute to legendary Atlanta strip club Magic City, a “trap kitchen” where visitors can learn about the food associated with trap music culture, and a wall of fame featuring iconic trap music album covers.
Oakland Cemetery African American History Tours
This guided tour takes visitors through Oakland Cemetery to learn about the history and contributions of African-Americans buried there, including Civil War veterans, ministers, and civic leaders.
Atlanta Black History Tour
